Yay! Penny got her quilt in the mail (she is in Kalgoorlie) and I was so relieved to hear she was happy with it. It is a little bit different to anything that I have made before as it relied heavily on using those Very Hungry Caterpillar panels. After doing a bit of online research on other quilts that had used panels, I decided to frame them with wonky log-cabins because I still wanted it to be random looking. Although I am very appreciative of how difficult it is to make points meet points and a quilt look neat and organised- it just isn't my own style! I kind of like the visual trickery of scrappy quilts. But it is much easier to make scrappy quilts using continuous print fabrics.
However, like anything challenging, I am glad I persisted with this one because it was really rewarding to make. It was also my first opportunity to use the Lecien stripe binding I bought from here. Definitely planning on using it again in the future- it makes every quilt a little bit funkier haha.
I love this so much. The hungry caterpillar is one of my favourite books. The pictures have captured mu imagination since I was a child.
ReplyDeleteA beautiful quilt. Great stuff Sarah.
